Unfortunately, the PBMs calculate the figure for their statin therapy metric without taking into account any attempts by the pharmacy to suggest a statin, or any valid reason a patient shouldn't take one. Hopefully the rare outliers won't harm your overall numbers significantly.
So what can you do? Try helping as many as possible, since every patient where a statin is billed will improve your rating. Have actual conversations with physicians who reject statin recommendations, and make sure they understand your recommendation is supported by current ACC/AHA and ADA guidelines. If the patient is worried about experiencing side-effects, you can recommend an appropriate supplement to replace those nutrients depleted by a statin.
